The Royal Convent of the Wounds in Vila Viçosa gave way 25 years ago to the installation of a Pousada of Portugal. On June 27, this moment was marked with a commemorative event attended by several entities.
The Pousada Convento de Vila Viçosa is housed in a religious house built more than 500 years ago and, preserving this heritage, invites all guests and visitors to enjoy a very special atmosphere. The 34 rooms and 5 suites are the original cells of the monks and there are also some rooms with a thematic decoration. Throughout the space you can observe original elements of the building, such as hand-painted frescoes. This Pousada also has an outdoor swimming pool, a games room, a music hall and a bar. The typical cuisine of the Alentejo’s and the conventual sweets are the hallmark of the experience for those who have their meals in the restaurant located in the former refectory of the convent.
An invitation to revisit history and enjoy in a special way. The Pousada Convento Vila Viçosa is located next to the Ducal Palace, the convent, the church and the palace that are witnesses of a rich historical period and bearers hard to equal.
Between Elvas, Borba and Redondo, Vila Viçosa is visited for its beautiful churches, monasteries, chapels, hermitages and convents. Known as the home of the poet “Florbela Espanca”, Vila Viçosa is also known internationally for the abundance of marble that exists in the region.
